  • Artist Story
  • Born in 1981, Siwoo Lee graduated Hong-Ik University with BA in Fine Arts and is currently working on his MFA in Fine Arts at Korean National University of Arts.

Lee’s "Moony Face" series features abstract figures in resemblance to a human head with colorful organismic shapes and lines painted over them. In his landscape paintings, he scatters people, objects, and territories in a disorderly manner. These randomly placed shapes and objects all represent the different, sometimes conflicting external factors surrounding each individual, which together complete a broader picture of Lee’s belief that personal differences contribute to social diversity but also breed disparity and confusion.

He had his first solo show at Gallery EM (Seoul) in 2009, followed by a second and third at GOOZEE Gallery (Daegu) in 2010 and Gallery EM in 2012 respectively. He has also taken part in a number of group exhibitions at museums and galleries both locally and abroad, including Song-Won Art Center (Seoul) in 2007, Hello Museum (Seoul) and MBC Gallery (Daegu) in 2008, Ilmin Museum of Art (Seoul) and DOSI Gallery (Busan) in 2009, Coesfeld Kunstverein (Coesfeld, Germany), Hwa’s Gallery (Shanghai, China), and Sun Gallery (Seoul) in 2010, Gallery White Block (Hyeri) and Lotte Gallery (Ilsan) in 2011 and Nakai Gallery (Kyoto) in 2013.
