ABOUT THE ARTIST
-
choin.Im | South Korea
Having graduated from Korea National University of Cultural Heritage, specialising in Traditional Korean Painting, choin.Im's works expresses humble strength in everyday humans. Such strength can be found in the resilience of everyday humans struggling to make ends meet, the silent power of a tiny blade of grass caught in between asphalt structures, and in the weary, but watchful, stray cat slipping into the night for food and shelter. We are constantly being flooded with the ‘new’ and the ‘provocative’ in our society. choin.Im pays tribute to these small and mighty beings. They are often neglected, but in truth, they sustain our entire city. They are the ultimate survivors. She explores these ideas through traditional Korean painting techniques with rice paper and fabric. Using a traditional Korean method, she dyes it with natural pigments and paints on it, creating beautiful, resilient works on handmade canvas.
