Often revolving around isolated figurative representations, Zhang's works are commonly associated with subjects pertaining to social events. In Late 2010, Zhang embarked on an ongoing series of work entitled "RICE BOWL", where the term "Rice Bowl" is a common analogy in reference to a staple means of earning a living.The working class have continued to serve as a recurring inspiration and theme for his work.
