ABOUT THE ARTIST

Kyoko Takane | Japan
Kyoko Takane is a Japanese artist who started learning calligraphy before the age of five. Her mother is a traditional calligrapher who writes Japanese classic poems. Soon after acquiring a degree in Calligraphy from Tokyo Gakugei University, Kyoko started teaching calligraphy at institutions in Japan and privately.View Profile »
Kyoko writes contemporary poetry as well as Chinese poetry. She selects poems and words that match her calligraphy style. This creates a great harmony in the expression of words in calligraphy. The artist also focuses on the light and shades of sumi (Japanese ink wash). Kyoko enjoys the process of sumi bleeding on paper, which occurs especially when she uses thin black ink. Sumi bleeding, together with blurring, distinguishes Japanese calligraphy and makes it unique.
The works by Kyoko Takane are part of a special collection of exquisite art prints titled Limited Edition 88 by art gallery Kato Art Duo.
