The Singapore Biennale was established in 2006 as the country’s pre-eminent platform for international dialogue in contemporary art. It places Singapore’s artists within a a global context, and fosters productive collaborations with the international arts community.

After a three-year hiatus, Singapore Biennale 2016 is back, and this time it is bigger and better. (Yes, we know biennale means every two years.) Into its fifth edition, this year’s Biennale is titled “An Atlas of Mirrors” running from October 28, 2016 to February 26, 2017.

Curated by a team of nine curators and a Creative Director, Dr. Susie Lingham, the Singapore Biennale is an international contemporary art exhibition which features site-specific and artworks by more than 60 artists across Southeast Asia, and East and South Asia.

Exploring shared histories and current realities within and beyond the region, Singapore Biennale 2016 will be a constellation of artistic perspectives that provide unexpected ways of seeing the world and ourselves.

Singapore Biennale 2016 will be anchored at Singapore Art Museum. Other heritage venues which will be hosting Singapore Biennale 2016 include SAM at 8Q, National Museum of Singapore, Asian Civilisations Museum, Peranakan Museum, De Suantio Gallery at Singapore Management University, The Arts House, and the Stamford Green.

An Atlas of Mirrors will offer a range of opportunities to the art community and the general public to get involved through curator-led tours, artists and curator dialogue tours, artist-led workshops, and public talks.

Creative Director Tour: Happening next Wednesday, 16 November, 2016, the Creative Director’s will take on the Singapore Biennale 2016! The visionary Dr Susie Lingham will bring you on a star-lit walking tour spanning several sites. Make your way from artwork to selected artwork, learn about the nation’s most distinguished platform for international dialogue in contemporary art, and perhaps even come away with new perspectives of the world. Tickets available at Singapore Art Museum and SISTIC.

Artist Workshops: Come take part in a series of hands-on workshops led by Biennale artists. Get to know the artists, learn more about their artworks and gain insight into what inspires them and their practice. These workshops will be held throughout the course of the Biennale. Mirror Walks: A series of Mirror Walks by artists and experts from various disciplines engage in dialogue about a particular artwork or conceptual strand of the Singapore Biennale 2016.
